Horse-drawn carriages lit with lanterns travel down the street. Its an awesome experience to participate in. We enjoyed this amazing event!

8. Shirley Place Museum and Gardens

This historic Federal or Greek styled brick house was built by James Shirley in 1840. James Shirley (1809-1866), was an early Northport pioneer settler from South Carolina. He built the house in about 1840.
Many of the original doors, locks and fireplaces of the house are still in use.
Located at 512 Main Avenue in downtown Northport, Shirley Place Museum and Gardens is now owned by the City of Northport.

End your visit to Northport with a delicious meal at City Café. This local favorite has been serving Southern comfort food for over 90 years. Indulge in hearty dishes and savor the flavors that make Northport’s culinary scene so unique. Its two rooms are usually filled up with customers waiting in line! That’s a testimony to their outstanding customer service, awesome food and low prices! I know the many times we have been there we always enjoyed it!
Located at 408 Main Avenue in downtown Northport, the City Café has been operating since 1931. City Café sits across the street from the Anders Hardware that opened in 1909 and is on the same side of the street of the historic Northport 5&10 store.
The City Café opens early at 4 a.m. for breakfast and closes in the mid afternoon at 3:30 pm. The café accommodates about 165 patrons with table and counter seating and usually there is a long line protruding out the door waiting for a table.
The City Café breakfast selections include bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, pancakes, omelets, scratch biscuits, and more. Lunch selections varies each day and offers traditional southern comfort food including meatloaf, hamburger steak, beef tips and rice, chicken and dressing, catfish fingers, field peas, string beans, mashed potatoes, candied yams, fried okra, creamed corn and much more.
Many University of Alabama students, and locals are frequent customers. It is estimated that the City Café serves about 1,000 meals at lunchtime and has an endless number of customers for breakfast. Reach out to them at 205-758-9171.
